Community Involvement Project - Bring More To The Maldives

Unique to the Maldives, guests at Vilu Reef Beach & Spa Resort, can participate in a community involvement project through Pack For A Purpose by donating supplies and materials directly to local schools.

Pack For A Purpose is a simple concept that makes a big impact on the lives of children around the world. The organisation was founded on the principal that those fortunate to travel to other countries have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the communities they visit. All it takes is a small amount of holiday luggage space (5 lbs/2.27kg is recommended) for educational materials.

For Vilu Reef guests that would like to bring more to the Maldives and make a small, easy, but meaningful contribution, donations can be made to the Dhaalu Atoll School, Meedhoo and Bandidhoo School. For a full list of items see the Vilu Reef Beach & Spa page on Pack For A Purpose website. Suggested items include:

• Stationery: pencils, pens, marker pens, colouring pencils, crayons, pencil cases, paint, erasers, paper (white and coloured), stickers, rulers, scrap books, notepads, binding combs (different sizes) etc
• Books: general information books for the library, story books, novels, puzzle books, trivia books
• Technology: blank anti-virus CD's, wi-fi router, informative CD's for the multimedia library, portable CD player

Please note that Vilu Reef is located in the same atoll as Meedhoo and Bandidhoo. As such, Vilu Reef offers a choice of 'local island tours'. These half-day or full-day excursions visit these islands to explore the local fishing village and to experience the ways of Maldivian life. Guests visit the mosque, schools, meet the local people and can enjoy some shopping. As such, it also provides guests with the opportunity to personally meet the school children and teachers and deliver their donated items in person. Prices start from US$ 45.00 per person (subject to 10% service charge + 6% T-GST). Please ask in resort for more information.
